I know, right? At 13, I became infatuated with Jessica Lange.

OMG, I LOVE AIB! That movie is HILARIOUS! I should buy it, actually. :icon_yes:

I got it for my boyfriend AIB for Christmas last year. It is even funnier now. He had never seen it. He watches it all the time now.

Have you seen Clue?

Wild Honey

AIB was on TV here a few weeks ago great film

I love 80's teen movies like "3oclock High" , "the sure thing" and John Hughes pre - Home alone

I loved the Airplane movies as well.

Ok, I finally saw The Descent, but I can't find the post where - alright, I'm too lazy to do a search for your comments about the movie, Stacia. Parts of this movie left me a bit confuzzled. They all died, right? What was up with Sarah (the main character I think) always seeing her dead daughter? I thought the 'ghost' was leading her out of there? Was the Asian girl sleeping with Sarah's husband? And how come the Asian girl had to take the blame for accidently killing that other chick? Didn't the other chick see what they were fighting? Okay maybe if somone accidently killed me I'd be pissed too LOL. Oy!

Hey girl!

Yes, they all died. I don't think her daughter was leading her out, my boss explained that to me, but I forgot lol. The Asian WAS sleeping with Sarah's husband--tramp! lol. Yes, she did kill the other girl on accident, but maybe Sarah thought it was on purpose because the dead girl had the necklace that Sarah's hubby gave the Asian girl (like, she found out about the affair, so she killed her, ya know?) Girl, so many things in that movie! I think that by that time, however, no one could really think straight, so their minds were distorted.

But um...did you like the movie??? :)

We'll start with the bad: Alpha Dog (HATED it, although Justin Timberlake was pretty good in it). Breed (with Michelle Rodriguez and Oliver Hudson) about college students who are trapped on an island with rabid dogs--STOOPID! Very stupid.

Pan's Labryinth--Absolutely amazing! I thought it was kids, but it ain't. It's VERY violent and graphic. The little girl is an amazing actress! The only thing I didn't like is that they didn't focus that much on the fantasy world and all the creatures there. Other than that--fabulous!

Apocalypto--Mel Gibson may be a racist, drunken, washed-up actor, but he rocks as a director and writer. I was totally enthralled in this movie--it's incredible.

Bedazzled--a blast from the past (well, 2000), starring Brendan Fraser as a man who sells his soul to the devil, Liz Hurley (Yum!). It's stupid in parts, but some parts made me laugh out loud. I liked all the different scenerios (for the most part), and how can you go wrong watching Liz Hurley dressed up in outfits representing men's kinky fantasies? Okay, I'll be honest--I only got the movie for Liz. :boobies: Be sure to watch the behind the scenes, cause Liz hosts it, and she's wearing these tight black pants, and this purple shirt which shows off her...assets.

Shrek 3 was pretty decent, but I guess I just don't like Justin Timberlake. I remember rolling my eyes for Shrek 2 and all they did was show a "poster" of him as Prince Justin in that one. Now he actually had a role in this and lets just say that Arthur *used* to be one of my favourite characters of all time. I just wanted to bitch slap the shrektoon version.

They had a big premiere for the movie at the Palms Casino last Wednesday...all the guys were there, Pitt (sans Jolie), Clooney, Damon, Cheadle, Pacino, plus lots of other celebs. I didn't go, but watched it on the news later.

It appears that Bumblebee had a big night out on the town and, well, he's still feeling the effects of a hard night's drinking. Poor little Bumblebee's got a nasty hangover.

I haven't posted in this thread in a while, but thanks to Grant's revival of it, I think I'll write about a few films I've seen recently.

A few weeks ago, I watched Norbit (don't ask me why). It's a typical Eddie Murphy film like the Nutty Professor. There are a lot of good laughs, but it's one of those movies you have to be in the mood for. So the basic plot is Norbit is married to a wife he doesn't love. When his childhood sweetheart moves back to town, he tries to escape from his marriage. Lots of funny moments and a feel-good ending.

Grandma's Boy was a pretty funny movie. It's produced by Adam Sandler's company (I think it's called Happy Madison?) so you see a lot of familiar faces. Alex finds himself without a home due to late rent payments, so he has to live with his grandma and her two roommates, but he tells everybody that he has been living with three young, hot roommates. Great cast including Doris Roberts and Linda Cardellini (so hot).

Breach was a really interesting movie. Some people might not like it because it isn't as Hollywood-ized as other movies. It's somewhat like a documentary of how Robert Hanssen was caught selling information to the Soviet Union. The crazy thing is that it's based on a true story.

Shooter was a good movie, but I got lost during some parts (I was probably too tired to concentrate). Mark Wahlberg's character was betrayed by the country, but when they need him again, he was willing to help them. Unknown to him, however, was the fact that he wasn't rehired by the US government. Lots of good action in the movie.

Letters from Iwo Jima is another great film by Clint Eastwood. It takes the Japanese side of WWII, and it makes you sympathetic for what the Japanese endured. They were humans who didn't want to be in a war just like the Americans.

I watched Scoop the other night. I was never a huge Woody Allen fan, but his recent films like Match Point and this one are starting to change my mind. I actually liked Scoop. It wasn't hard to follow, and it was witty. Scarlett Johansson does an excellent job acting as a student journalist. The film does require some suspension of disbelief though. Johansson's character Sondra gets a scoop from a dead journalist that claims Hugh Jackman's character Peter Lyman (Lord Lyman's son) killed a girl. To find out more, Sondra goes undercover but ends up falling in love with her object of investigation.

I keep wanting to write a review of something but I'm huge fan of the classics and I don't think I can say anything about Casablanca or the Maltese Falcon that hasn't already been said. :)

Anyway we've been watching a lot of movies lately so here are a few of our favorites...

If only is a charming romance staring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Paul Nicholls. Hewitt plays an American studying music in London who meets and falls in love with a stodgy British banker/financier/something (its never quiet clear what he does)... They have a huge fight, she dies and then movie sort of goes "Groundhog Day" and he's given a chance to chance to to relive that awful day and possibly change the outcome. At first I was put off by the whole relive the day plot but the more I think about it the more I like it... It's actually a very charming movie.

A good year, is a lighthearted romantic comedy staring Russell Crowe and Marion Cotillard, I have to admit I was nervous about renting this movie since almost all the reviews were awful... But you know what it wasn't bad at all, I really enjoyed it actually. Yes, it's a little clichéd at times but all in all we enjoyed it enough to buy a copy. :)

Breach, like Ange says it's not your typical Hollywood special effects fest, it's entirely character driven. It starts a little slow but builds momentum nicely and ultimately it's great movie.

Freedom Writers, is a fact based drama staring Hillary Swank... I'm really not sure what else to say other than it's one of the best films I've in a long time!

XOXO;

Maggie

One of the funny parts in Norbet was the waterslide scene. I was watching the movie while waiting for a frozen bottle of beer to thaw.

Didn't see all of Scoop, but the parts i saw were good.

I just finished watching Little Manhattan, and it might possibly be the cutest movie ever. Gabe (played by Josh Hutcherson) is 10 years old and he's at the point in his life where the opposite gender no longer has cooties. He begins to notice Rosemary and starts to experience the most confusing emotion ever: love. It's such a sweet movie, and it'll bring back so many memories of your first love; I liked being able to hear all of Gabe's thoughts because I could remember asking myself those same questions. Hell, I still ask myself those questions; "does she like me?", "did I move too fast?", "will she call?" It's a movie everybody can relate to. Highly recommend it.

Hey Gang, here’s few quick movie reviews...

Fort Courageous is a 1965 vintage "B" western staring Fred Beir as a court-martialed cavalry sergeant who must assume command of after his commanding officer(s) are killed in an indian attack. About the best thing I can say for this movie is it had potential but it never lived up to it and was ultimately disappointing.

Music and Lyrics is perfectly charming romantic comedy staring Hugh "I'm the dumb ass who cheated on Liz Hurley" Gant and Drew Barrymore. Grant plays Alex Flectcher a has been pop singer who is given a couple days to compose a new song for clichéd teen pop sensation... he some how clicks with Sophie Fisher (Barrymore) and... you'll just have to watch the movie to find out. :)

Angel Face is a 1952 film-nior classic starring Robert Mitchum and Jean Simmons. Mitchum plays and ambulance driver who fall under the spell of sensuous but dangerous Diane Tremayne (Simmons). The ending was kind of predictable but all in all it was an enjoyable movie.

Man on Fire... two words Denzel Washington! Washington plays John Creasy a burnt out, alcoholic former assassin who's hired by wealthy Mexican couple as a bodyguard for their 9 year daughter Pita (Dakota Fanning). Creasy isn't enthused about the job but forms a bond with Pita and when she's kidnapped Creasy does what he does best.

There's more than a little violence in this movie but still enjoyable and the ending is surprising.

Second Chances is a heart warming story of a physically and emotionally injured 10 year old girl (Kelsey Mulrooney) and how her relationship with a broken down horse and a broken down rodeo cowboy help her recover. This one of the best films I've seen in a long time, I really can't do it justice here... it's a must see.

The Holiday is a romantic comedy staring Cameron Diaz & Kate Winslet. I'm not sure how to describe the plot without giving away the movie but basically two women with man trouble agree to swap homes in different countries for two weeks and find romance with local guys. It's a cute, lighthearted, entertaining movie definitely worth seeing. :)

Talk about a summer blockbuster! I used to LOVE the old Transformers cartoons. I'm hoping the next 80's cartoon-to-feature film will be Thundercats!

Anyway, I've seen Transformers twice since Saturday (mainly, because Saturday, we missed the beginning, because my friends were late). I LOVED this film! Some parts are definitely hokey, but there are some really funny parts as well. But, nothing can beat the action and the special effects--the battle scenes were fantastic! And, the two hotties--Megan Fox, the leading lady hottie, and Rachael Taylor, the Aussie supporting hottie--definitely kept me glued. Actually, I thought Rachael was much hotter than Megan (whose getting all the "hot" buzz). I'd recommend this one for sure! :icon_yes:

Megan: Yummy (and love the dress!)

it's amazing how many movie reviews you can post.
Surely, you must be very fond of movies.
Do you really watch all those movies or, at least for some of them, you just read about them from newspapers and magazines and them summarize the opinions?

Anyway, I do really appreciate your work and I always read your professional reviews carefully. Unfortunately not all the movies are available in Italy ...

I've locked myself in a hotel suite for a couple of days (just for fun). Of course, I had to partake in the hotel movies! My brother kept saying how much he LOVED Georgia Rule, so I watched it tonight. It was fabulous! It stars Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda, as a mother and daughter who have never been able to truly bond. Lindsay Lohan plays Felicity's daughter, who has a penchant for lying, and Felicity sends her from S.F. to a small town in Idaho to live with Georgia (Fonda) for 10 weeks to try to straighten her out before she heads off to college. Problem is...Rachel (Lohan), hasn't seen Georgia since she was a young child, and has pre-judged Georgia because of her mom's sour relationship with her. I won't give anything else away, because there's a whole other side-plot--a very serious one.

The acting in this film is phenomenal!!! Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman have incredible chemistry, and you can feel their love-hate, mother-daughter relationship. As for Lindsay--despite her troubles--this movie just reminds me why I LOVE her as an actress. Her acting talent is unrefutable, and she holds her own against the legendary Fonda. Linds truly is amazing to watch in this one.

I'll definitely buy this one when it comes out.

I managed to catch this one in el teatro. Felicity Huffman is SO underrated in everything she does. In this role, she delivers the pain of a child who never received her mother's approval; she doesn't care, yet she does--she still wants that approval. She is magnificent to watch in this role.

I watched Georgia Rule this weekend after Stacia's positive review of the movie. I agree, the acting by Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda were excellent, but I still couldn't forget all of Lindsay's bad publicity lately. I found it funny that her character was such a mess (the promiscuity, alcohol, and drugs) because I felt like Lindsay was playing herself (aside from the main problem of the movie of course). I think I would've felt more sympathy if it was another actress playing Rachel.

...that Lindsay faces in her acting career. I saw GR before all of this shit happened. But honestly, I still feel the same about the strength of Lindsay's performance, even given her current embattlements. But, that's what she faces: people being unable to separate Lindsay ther persona from the characters she portrays on the big screen. I'm not sure if she'll be able to overcome that. And honestly, if she continues to deliver strong acting performances, it's somewhat unfair.

Yeah, I can see your point, VH. On some levels, it IS unfair to Lindsay, but also, she should know that her behavior may affect people's views of her as an actress.

I Know Who Killed Me, anyone seen it?

Oy! I don't think I got this movie. Lindsay Lohan stars as twins (and stigmatic ones at that) in this movie. At least it was cute when she played twins in the remake of The Parent Trap. Uh, how many times has that movie been remade? I think there was one but with triplets and one of the triplets used to be on Saved By The Bell, she played one of those tough chicks, like a Jo Polnichek from The Facts Of Life.

OMG, where did I run off too?

Oh yeah, okay so anyone else but me was lost in this movie? I mean, were there 2 killers? One who tortured Dakota and one who buried Aubrey? Or do I just not get the whole stigmatic thing? I mean, I always thought yes, they bled, but I didn't realize that if a body part got cut off on one twin, the other twin's exact body part was cut off too. Cuz when Dakota dug up the grave and found Aubrey, I couldn't tell if her right hand and leg were missing cuz she used her left hand to remove the veil.

Oh dear.

You made a very wise decision, Stacia. Funny thing is, I was so excited to see this one from her. And not for the semi-porn (really, I had no idea that was in there) violence against women thing. I guess as usual, they show the best parts in the trailers.

I think Skinwalkers was way better than IKWKM. And what a nice surprise to see Jason Behr again, although I could have gone without seeing his bare buttocks.

Oh dear.
So tell us, who killed you? :bee:

You made a very wise decision, Stacia. Funny thing is, I was so excited to see this one from her. And not for the semi-porn (really, I had no idea that was in there) violence against women thing. I guess as usual, they show the best parts in the trailers.

I think Skinwalkers was way better than IKWKM. And what a nice surprise to see Jason Behr again, although I could have gone without seeing his bare buttocks. Hmm...and for me, seeing Jason's ass would be a great reason to watch. I find him just...yummy! :icon_yes:

I'm wondering if Jason Behr is type-cast from his days on Roswell. I don't think I've seen him in anything since his days on the series. But in Skinwalkers he had the same wounded expression since Roswell, wearing dark colours and of course, he barely said anything . The strong silent type, huh? And he's the good boy gone bad who manages to go good again. Betcha didn't see that one coming. But he's seriously ripped now.

My friends have been telling me FOREVER that I should join Netflix, because I watch SOOOO many movies, but I never checked it out. Sunday, my boss was telling me about it, and let me check it out on the net, and OMG! I went home that night, and as of now, I have 73 movies in my queue! I got 3 movies yesterday, and I'm sending 2 back today. I can't believe I didn't join sooner; I would have saved a bundle--I literally go to Blockbuster EVERY SINGLE WEEK, and I estimated I spend about $40 on movies each month. Netflix is A LOT less, and you can get all the movies you want! :icon_peac

I was watching a little Aussie horror/comedy/sci-fi film tonight.
It's called Undead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0339840/) and it's quite good for the lower budget the guys had to work with. If you've ever wanted to see someone shoot zombies with a triple shotgun (yes, you heard me. 3 shotguns grouped together) then this is the film to deliver such action.
I'm sure if you look around the net you'll probably find it somewhere.

Most people I talked to who saw this movie said that it was really funny. But, I dunno, I avoided it because I just thought it would be stupid. I watched it while on vacation, and it's HILARIOUS! Katherine Heigel is a great comedic actress. I don't watch Grey's Anatomy, but I know who she is. She and Seth Rogen have great chemistry. I watched the uncut version, which is really long--2 hrs 13 mins to be exact. I'd pick this one up for a good laugh. There's a scene with a doorman that just had me ROLLING!!!!!

At least on film. Here are 42 seconds of hot bliss with HG and hottie Jessica Stroup from the soon-to-be-released film "Broken." It was driving me crazy where I'd seen Jessica before. I recognized her (although she's sans blonde hair), and I recognized her name. Then, it hit me--she was in The Hills Have Eyes 2 (and she's the ONLY reason to watch that horrible flick).

I stumbled across this film on Netflix by complete accident--I'd never even heard of it. After I watched it and realized that Felicity Huffman was Best Actress nominee in 2006 for her performance, I was like, "Who the hell won? She should have won!" Reese Witherspoon won, BTW.

Anyway, Transamerica is about a man (Huffman), who is transgendered, and one week away from having final sex reassignment surgery. He lives a simple life as Bree Osborn. One day, she (to which I'll refer the character from now on) finds out that 1. she has a son and 2. he's in jail. She stuggles with this new information, and decided to go from L.A. to NYC to bail him out (posing under the guise of a church worker). Her 17 year-old son, Toby (played by the fantastic, and absolutely beautiful Kevin Zegers), has dreams of going to Hollywood to begin a "career" in adult films.

Bree, however, really wants nothing to do with him at first; they travel to his hometown, where she's hoping she can just drop him off and be on her way--that doesn't happen. On their long drive to L.A., they encounter many trials--the best scenes being when they stop in Phoenix to visit Bree's unaccepting family--well--mother.

There's a very creepy but heartwrenching scene where Toby (after he sees Bree's penis--unbeknownst to Bree), wants to have sex with Bree. It's a very odd and uncomfortable scene, to say the least. Toby at this point still has no idea that Bree is his father.

This film absolutely blew me away. Felicity Huffman was a woman transformed; her voice was a few octaves lower (which she said was the hardest part to accomplish in the special features), and she mastered the forced mannerisms of a man living as a woman--right down to the way she walked and used her hands. Huffman astounded me in this role--it's the best I've ever seen her!

Yeah, it's a strange film. There are a couple of moments when it's assuming and almost charming but that gets lost because the characters are so annoying and unlikable you spend the movie hoping, waiting, praying for someone to smack them silly. http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/700/4617690iconnocz9.gif

Hey guys, the last couple of movies we watched were, to put it mildly, disappointing but it looks like we're back on the right track. Last night we watched Dinner Rush staring Danny Aiello. Aiello plays an aging bookie and restauranteur who's bemoaning the transformation of his restaurant from a down-to-earth, mom-and-pop Italian eatery to a pretentious, see-and-be-seen establishment. To further complicate things Aiello has to deal with a couple of thugs who kill his partner and who want muscle in on his bookmaking business and the restaurant.

Dinner Rush is completely character driven, there's no crazy special effects, no over the top cars chases just great group of actors acting... it's a wonderful film, I highly recommend it!

Hey guys, we just wasted about 40 minutes of our lives watching "Good Luck Chuck" staring Dane Cook and Jessica Alba.

Good Luck Chuck had potential, it could have been an enjoyable and funny movie the scenes between Alba and Cook where kind of charming and sometimes funny but between the sophomoric and vulgar sex jokes and the gratuitous sex scenes whatever potential this movie had evaporated in the first 40 minutes... which incidentally was all we could stomach of Chuck.

Friday night, I watched Across the Universe. I didn't grow up listening to the Beatles, so I only knew about five of the 30-or-so songs. The story line got a little crazy at some points (probably for the sake of the songs to fit into the story line), but it was a decent movie. All the Beatles fans I know love it though.

Saturday I watched Gone Baby Gone. I was completely impressed by the Affleck brothers. Ben did a nice job of directing the film and showing the Boston area. Casey was perfect as the lead actor. Ths movie had so many twists and turns; I was blown away by how good it was. Plus, it deals a lot with what's wrong and what's right, questions about morality and such. Highly recommend this one.

We watched "Stick It" the movie centers around acerbic 17-year-old former gymnast who's rebellious ways get her in trouble with the law... she ends being sentenced to enroll either in an elite gymnastics academy or military school (she ends up at the gymnastics academy).

This movie is really targeted at young people but we enjoyed it more than we thought we would. The star, Missy Peregrym, was terrific but the supporting cast with the exception of Jeff Bridges was mediocre.

As side note this movie resonated with me in part because I was involved in gymnastics for many years and there's a lot of truth in it... especially about the sometimes petty nature of the judging!

I tend to wait until movies are released on DVD before watching them. With the costs of popcorn and stuff in the theater, I'd rather spend the money on a dinner and coffee/drinks afterwards. To me, most movies are remakes.

My younger brother was basically an "enforcer" on his high school hockey team. I was on the gymnastics team and tried field hockey for a while but I didn't have time to really practice for it. If you want to be good at gymnastics is an all consuming thing. :)

Missy was really good in that movie, it's the interaction between her and Jeff Bridges that makes the movie.

Admittedly not one of K. Smith's greatest works, but in keeping with the times we live in perhaps, for subject matter.

Saw the new Bond flick on Sunday. I enjoyed the storyline but I don't know about the blatant shot of the chick dead and totally covered in oil. Looks exactly like the pose of Masterson in "Goldfinger". Are they paying homage to the older films? Not going to say much more and be a spoiler.

Believe it or not, this is my first Bond film in the theatre. Been a fan for years and never seen one on the big screen.

I obviously will have to go check out Bond. I always believed in Daniel Craig, btw. Just had to brag.........but the trailer shows an awfully violent movie, so I hope it is not too brutal. Life can be brutal for some. Christians are still being tortured in parts of China. A few missionaries were beheaded in muslim countries recently. Falun Gong followers are persecuted in their millions.
Well, it is Bond.

We watched "Henry Poole Is Here" last night. The film revolves around Henry Poole (Luke Wilson (http://www.netflix.com/RoleDisplay/Luke_Wilson/165388)) who after after learning he only has six weeks to live buys a house in the neighborhood he grew up in, cuts himself off from his family, his fiancée and binges on pizza, twinkies and booze.

I don't know what say about this movie other than YAWN... it wasn't good, it wasn't bad, it was just sort of disjointed and boring.

"The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button." If you see only one film in 6 months, that must be it. It is a beautiful film. Extremely well directed, the pathos blends in with comedy, the story flows at a steady pace, drawing you into the character's lives. Kind of like "Big Fish" meets "Dr Zhivago." I see Brad Pitt's influence in the use of humour. Cate Blanchett is stunning as always. Brad does the New Orleans accent so well.

Scarlett always performs in a Woody Allen sort of way when directed by him. She has his little mannerisms down pat. His hand movements, his slightly dry humour off the cuff remarks. She did well. And Penelope's temper tantrums, wow.

We recently watch What About Bob and Flash of Genius... What About Bob was released in 1991 and stars Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss. The film revolves around psychiatric patient Bob Wiley (Bill Murray) who is so determined to receive treatment for his phobias he follows his pompous shrink Dr. Leo Marvin (Richard Dreyfuss) from New York to his vacation home in New Hampshire.

It's better than it sounds... What About Bob isn't the typical slapstick comedy you'd expect from Bill Murray, it's more low key. The movie is slow moving at times but Bob's childlike enthusiasm that is charming and ultimately it's an entertaining funny movie.

I give it :boobies: :boobies:.

Flash of Genius is a David versus Goliath story about the legal battle waged Dr. Robert Kearns, the inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper against Ford Motor Co.

Genius is entirely character driven and it kind of plods along at times but it's very interesting story and an enjoyable movie.

I give it :boobies: :boobies: and I'll throw in a :lesbi: for the sight of Lauren Graham in an almost see through white nightgown.

I remember watching "What About Bob" over and over again when I was a really little. I always got a kick out of it

A movie I can recommend is "Boiler Room". It is my favorite movie of all time. There is nothing too special about it, but there is something that intrigues me and has me watching it repeatedly. I guess it is all the foul mouthed Long Islanders in the film that get my attention.:bee:

The movie is based on the experiences of Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie) who's young son, Walter, was kiddnapped on March 10, 1928. I won't say more about the plot just because that spoil the movie... Angelina Jolie was absolutely fabulous the cast was kind of unremarkable but it's Jolie's peformance that makes the movie.

We watched Australia a couple of days ago... I have to admit I was a little anxious about this movie, a lot of reviews were rather critical and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Screw the reviews, Australia is a terrific movie! The film revolves around the adventures of Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) in the days leading up to WWII.

After the death of her husband Lady Ashley inherits a huge cattle station in northern Australia. In order to protect her property from a ruthless cattle baron (
Bryan Brown) she joins forces with a rough and tumble stock-man (Hugh Jackman) to drive 1,500 head of cattle across hundreds of miles unforgiving land... only to still face the bombing of Darwin by the Japanese.

There are moments when the film tries to do to much and you have to kind of suspend disbelief but all in all it's very enjoyable film.

Ha. So much for the bad review. I'll have to wait for the DVD now. At Fred Meyer. For $1......

Just goes to prove one can't always follow the critics. I should know that by now.

Generally if a picture is released by Sony Classics, with epitaphs like "engaging storyline" or 'tumultous relationships" you know you will fall aseep after 5 minutes.

Old Bryan Brown sometimes lands the eevull guy roles.

Two quick movies reviews... We literally just finished watching The Wedding Date starring Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney.

I'm not sure what to say about this film, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. The Wedding Date is romantic comedy revolves around Kat (Messing) and Patrick (Mulroney)... Kat can't bare the idea of attending her sister's London wedding, where her ex-boyfriend will be the best man, so she hires Patrick, a male escort, to be her wedding date. Their relationship blossoms... stuff happens... yada... yada... yada... the plot is a bit clichéd but it's not awful, it's not a bad movie, it has charming and funny moments but ultimately I didn't enjoy it. There was just something not really likable about the characters.

Bottom line it's a one http://www.smileyvillage.com/smilies/confused0024.gif film.

Review number two... We watch Sydney White a couple of nights ago. It's a quirky update on the "Snow White" fairly tail. College freshman Sydney White (Amanda Bynes) pledges her mothers old sorority only to find that the once dignified sorority has devolved into a nasty, backhanded clique run by the evil queen, Rachel Witchburn (Sara Paxton). Disillusioned by the experience, Sydney takes up with a group of seven outcasts and they set out to shake up school's social hierarchy and bring down the queen. :)

Ok, this movie is actually better than it sounds... I was a little apprehensive just because it sounds so corney... and it is... but in an enjoyable way. Bynes is charming, Paxton is the blonde, perfect size 2 "Stepford Chick" you just love to hate and ultimately is an enjoyable movie.

Bottom line is a two :boobies: :boobies: film.

Today I saw the new Nicholas Cage film "Knowing". From the commercials you basically get a drift of what it is about. Nicholas Cage gets a page completely filled with numbers that list the date and location natural disasters and catastrophic events will occur and he wants to find a way to stop it.

The movie from beginning to end was fantastic! There is one scene that is a tad far-fetched, but it didn't ruin the film even the slightest. ;) Some scenes are a little terrifying just because you know that this stuff has happened. The effects in the film are well done and it is not cheesy like some of Cage's recent films have been. I definitely recommend it :yippee:

I used to have the DVD of "8MM 2". I enjoyed the photoshoot part with the 2 Hungarian babes on the mattress. One thing that seriously annoys me about soft porn movies is how they have an extra constantly walk in front of the camera.

I did not know Zita Görög was so gorgeous.

I saw the new Star Trek movie. I was a tad skeptical seeing as J.J. Abrams was directing. I thought he may have an action based plot like without really giving the audience a true Star Trek experience.

I am still feeling satisfied from watching the film - 4 hours later.

It was spectacular. The way he handled the emotions - even for Spock - which would be a challenge already - is worthy of note. It is truly impressive how J.J. balanced plot, with relationship and emotions, yet leaving the audience satisfied with the action.

The Enterprise was better looking than it was in the olden days of Star Trek, even though it is the same. The deflector array was shown well, as were the warp nacelles. Something radically new - the ships 'fuck off' instead of building up to warp then moving. They just go, a la Babylon 5.

Actually, mentioning other series; Paul McGillion, the doctor from Stargate Atlantis has a guest appearance in front of a console, giving Kirk his no go.

The enemy ship made me think of Star Trek "Nemesis".

Oh, and get this - the red stuff. Who remembers the big red ball from "Alias?"

The dialogue was quite good. Wynona Ryder is in the film. And a special guest star.Wow.

Totally worth seeing. :yippee: clap_smile clap_smile clap_smile clap_smile clap_smile

Hey guys, I've been really busy lately and though we've watched a bunch of movies I haven't had the time review them... Anyway here's few quick reviews of films that really stood out. :)

The Dish
The Dish is an Australian comedy based on actual events... set in 1969 the film revolves around the crew of a huge radio telescope located in the middle of sheep paddock in the town of Parkes, New South Wales, Australia and the roll they played in televising the Apollo XI lunar landing to the world.

The Dish is a very enjoyable film about a little known aspect of one of the most incredible events in human history... you have to see this movie... Four thumbs up! :)

Sam Nail and Patrick Warburton star.

The Women
I wasn't expecting much from The Women because the reviews were kind of so-so... Anyway so much for the review I really enjoyed this film!

The Women is remark of George Cukor's 1939 classic starring Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing, Bette Midler and Candice Bergen. The film revolves a close knit group of friends who discover that their pal Mary's (Ryan) husband is having an affair with a gorgeous young sales clerk (Mendes). I don't want to give away the whole plot so I'll just say stuff happens and friends rally around Mary and help her win back her man.

Yes it's campy and clichéd but so what it's comedy... it's supposed to be!

Overall The Women is funny and enjoyable film and we liked it. Three thumbs up.

Wind
Wind is an absolutely stunning film about yacht racing... it stars Matthew Modine and Jennifer Grey as experienced sailors and lovers who are determined to win the prestigious America's Cup yacht race. Their love is put to the test when she's kicked off his crew and they go their separate ways. Anyway I can't say to much more with giving away the plot but they sort of get back together, stuff happens and there's a big race. :)

It's hard to describe this film it's both formulaic and completely original at the same time... The cinematography is amazing, the actors are engaging and the tension and drama build so slowly that you feel like you're right on the boat with them! We loved it, four thumbs up with :boobies: and :yippee: thrown in!

Last but not least is Nights in Rodanthe.

Nights in Rodanthe stars Diane Lane and Richard Gere. The film revolves around the relationship between Adrienne Willis (Lane) and Dr. Paul Flanner (Gere) who are both struggling with problems in their lives... they meet when Willis takes a weekend caretaker job at her friend's coastal North Carolina inn, and as a storm batters the inn sparks fly between Willis and Flanner changing their lives forever.

We enjoyed it but the story is slow to develop and the film can seem a bit clichéd at points but it's still enjoyable and ending is a complete shock!

Two thumbs up (one from each of us).

Hi guys, two quick reviews:

Taking Chance
It's hard to explain the power of Taking Chance, there are no conflicts, no mysteries of character or any of usual trappings of great drama... You know exactly how the film will end before starts and yet it's one of the most powerful films I've seen. It will break your heart and lift your spirit at the same time.

Taking Chance is based on an article written by Marine Lt. Col. Micheal Stoble documenting his journey escorting the body of a fallen Marine, 19 year old PFC Chance Phelps from Dover, Maryland to Dubois, Wyoming. It's an incredibly intimate and emotional look it something that few people outside the military ever see... No fallen soldier makes their final journey home alone, they all make that journey with a uniformed escort.

Four thumbs up and a tissue warning... Don't watch this movie without a box of Kleenex.

Outsourced
Outsourced is 2006 comedy starting Josh Hamilton and Asif Basra... Todd Anderson (Hamilton) is the call center managed for Western Novelties and when his department is outsource he is sent to India to train his replacement (Basra).

Outsourced is little formulaic, theres the predictable cultural clashes and the clichéd romance but ultimately it has certain charm and is fun to watch... two thumbs up.

The Hangover

I would like to start out saying this movie was F*CKING HILARIOUS. From start to finish me and everyone else in the theater were cracking up.

Basically the title tells you what the film was about. Four guys go to Vegas to celebrate their friend Doug's last few days as a single man. They wake up the next day completely messed up not remembering a detail and finding out Doug is gone. They spend the day gathering clues and getting knocked out by Mike Tyson, chased by a lion and finding a tooth

I give it a 5 out of 5 :yippee:

The Proposal

This films stars Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds and the great Betty White. Sandra Bullock plays the stereotypical bitch boss who everyone hates. Reynolds is her assistant who is an aspiring editor that spends his days being whipped by Bullock and hasn't had a vacation in 3 years! She gets terrible news that she'll be deported back to Canada so her only way out is to lie and say Reynolds is her fiance. Reynolds obliges and says that in exchange he wants to become an editor for the company. The two spend the weekend in Alaska with his family trying to fool INS into thinking they are a real couple.

The movie was enjoyable and I can't complain about seeing Sandra Bullock for nearly two hours. Betty White was definitely the star of the movie and was hysterical. Her and Sandra end up rapping and dancing in the woods

I give it 3 out of 4 stars. It was worth the $5 ticket ;)

Defiance

Defiance stars Daniel Craig and is based on the real life efforts Tuvia Bielski and his brothers to create a safe haven for Jewish refugees the in the forests of Belarus during World War II. Led by Tuvia and his brother Zus (Liev Schreiber) The Bielski partisans established a sanctuary that saved more than 1,200 Jews from persecution and death at the hands of Nazis.

I’m really not sure what else to say about Defiance it’s a great film, four thumbs is up!

Grand Torino

Grand Torino stars Clint Eastwood as crusty, retired auto worker and Korean War veteran named Walt Kowalski. At first blush Kowalski isn’t a very likable guy, he’s gruff, he’s bigoted and as the film progresses you come realize he’s a good man at heart.

I don’t want to get to deep in to the plot but basically Kolwalski lives with his yellow Lab, Daisy, in a Highland Park, Michigan neighborhood... He’s not crazy about his neighbors but he becomes an unlikely guardian angel for them.

Gran Torino is another great film, I highly recommend it... Four thumbs up.

Clint Eastwood still has the best scowl in Hollywood BTW.

What Happens in Vegas

What Happens in Vegas probably should have stayed in Vegas… After a night of heavy partying in Vegas, two strangers (Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher) wake up and realize, much to their surprise and displeasure, that they're married... yada yada yada, stuff happens they end up in divorce court and more stuff happens.

Ok What Happens in Vegas isn’t terrible, the basic plot is good and there are a few very funny moments but Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher just aren’t likable and that ruins what could have been a good film… One thumb up.

The Children of Huang Shi

The Children of Huang Shi is based on the real life efforts of British correspondent George Hogg (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) attempts to save 60 war orphans during Japan's occupation of China in the 1930s.

There are a few historical inaccuracies in the film but overall The Children of Huang Shi is an excellent film... Four thumbs up.

Down to You

Down to You is 2000 film starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Julia Stiles... Freddie Prinze Jr. usually has a certain boyish charm but in this film his charm like everything else falls flat.

Prinze plays Alfred, an uptight college upperclassman who falls for free-spirited undergraduate Imogen (Stiles)... they meet, opposites attract, they drift apart, yada yada yada... Boring, clichéd and blah pretty much sum up this film. Two thumbs down!

She's All That

She's All That is a charming teenage spin on George Bernard Shaw's play, "Pygmalion" starring Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. Zack Siler (Prinze Jr.) accepts his friends' bet to make over the geeky, bespectacled Laney Boggs (Cook) into a prom queen beauty. What starts out as a bet quickly turns to romance as Zack falls in love with his sparkling creation.

I really enjoyed this movie, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook have great chemistry together and the flim is really very charming and fun... Four thumbs up.

Whew...

Bride Wars

Bride Wars stars Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway star as life long best friends, Emma and Liv, who become worst enemies when they realize their respective weddings are scheduled on the same day at their dream venue... the Plaza Hotel.

Bride Wars does a have certain charm and more than a few funny moments. Unfortunately, it also has more than it's fair share of unimaginative, clichéd, even slightly misogynistic moments.

I not sure what to say about Bride Wars... I liked and I hated it same time. The idea that life long friends would turn into a pair of completely ruthless bridezillas who resort every dirty trick in the book ruin each others wedding just grates on me.

Anyway, one thumb up, Bride Wars is a mostly enjoyable bit of escapist entertainment.

I have just come back from "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince". This was not your action packed movie. It was more of an exploration and development of the lives of the teens heroes as they grow older, depend upon and rely on each other, learn about love.

The directing is off the charts. One is totally immersed in the film from the first second. The darkness, eeriness, danger, fear and expectation of sumfink 'orrible about to fall on them is palpable. The characters are so well played. There are battles, there are of course special effects. The Quidditch game was awfully dangerous as always. The ending, weel, I totally did not see that coming.

The revelation of who the Half Blood Prince is more than makes up more the absence of a finale of spell blasting violence one is accustomed to. The story is well woven, carrying one along fro one character to the other. The audience found a bit of humour in it here and there. I laughed once or twice. Not really the laughing type unless there is something really funny.

It is an intriguing film, almost disturbing, leaves one thinking about life today, one's own commitments, the power of devious planning.

I would totally recommend seeing it. It sets one up for the next installment, which should be cataclysmic.

'500 Days of Summer' with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel is a bright charming film with pathos and deeper emotions brushed into the story of the main characters they played so well. Through the ordinary trips and events of these two is shown how they feel, how they endure, what they aspire to.

Shot in downtown LA, simple places are painted with the colours of love and excitement, so one forgets that it is a simple love story. It is so different from many other romances I have seen.

I wonder whether Joseph will take the place of Heath Ledger.

Of course, it has Zooey Deschanel. I cried once. The rest is a roller coaster ride, without excessive garish danger, a trip through hearts and funny pokes at life, without jaded sarcasm. Just a fun, light film with beauty and some meaning to take home.

We just finished watching the worst movie we've seen this year, Passengers starring Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson... It's a painfully awful, slow to develop waste of 94 minutes.

Passengers is billed as being a supernatural thriller/romance but it fails to deliver on both counts... It fails as romance because there's absolutely no chemistry between Hathaway and Wilson. And it fails as supernatural thriller because there's nothing spooky or even thrilling about the plot... which I can't even describe without spoiling the film.

We give it two :icon_bore and a http://www.smileyvillage.com/smilies/confused0024.gif (http://www.smileyvillage.com/)...

We rented a few movies last week and i watched 2 of the 4 films cause i hadn't seen them.
We hired Step Brothers
Get Smart
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (seen this lots of times. It's a classic)
and Death at a Funeral
I've seen Step Brothers, and the top 2 have been mentioned on here before. So i'll tell you about the last one.

Death at a Funeral (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0795368/) is a British film and it's just so funny. A man, his brother and his mother have to organise a funeral when the man's father dies. There's nothing odd about that.
But who would've thought so much could go wrong during a small funeral service in a quiet town.. And it all starts when the hearse arrives with the coffin.

I give it :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
You should all check it out if you can.

Oki no the sequel to 'Get Shorty' was 'Be Cool'.

I like Anne Hathaway in that film. She was gorgeous. Carrell does the whole pan face comedy thing to tedium.

I'm not sure what came over us but we watched Management with Jennifer Aniston and Steve Zahn last night.

Management revolves around Sue (Aniston), a traveling saleswoman, who makes the mistake of having a one-night stand with Mike (Zahn) the creepy, dim-witted motel night manager who takes to following her around the country... stuff happens and the movie thankfully ends.

I'm really at a loss for what to say here... Management isn't awful but it's not good eithier... It's just sort off http://www.smileyvillage.com/smilies/confused0024.gif (http://www.smileyvillage.com) ehh. Management is billed as being a romantic comedy but it isn't funny, there are few awkwardly funny moments but overall it isn't funny... it's boring. And worse yet it's not romantic either... not unless you consider a creepy, dim-witted guy meets girl whom he stalks until they form a kind of weird co-dependent relationship movie romantic.

Anyway, thumbs down... way down.

I went to see 'Coco Before Chanel'.

I read a book on Gabrielle Chanel some years back. Afterwards I wondered whether a film would ever be made on her life.

It is a good film to watch. They handled whatever source material they garnered well. It is, after all, about Gabrielle. The study of period dresses by Chanel was put cleverly into the script. One sees the ladies of the time passing by without special attention being drawn to them, as part of their lives, with one exception I can recall.

I do not remember Chanel being quite so miserable or curt, at least in her early years, but the end sequence was really the cherry and strawberry on top of the film. It was briliiant to see lady after lady walk by, transformed, with Chanel humbly, well, at least mostly humbly, watching the parade of her creation.

I don't think I have read anywhere that Chanel is hugely responsible for the world we live in today, but she is, from what I could see. The clean lines we have in our clothes, the arhitectural designs Ayn Rand insisted upon in her book 'Atlas Shrugged', even attitudes towards fashion and scents were largely found in her lap, sewn into the fabric of society, starting in Paris, spreading throughout the world.

She was, her family was, dirt poor. Her father really was not around much, as a travelling salesman, yet she grew to command one of the most powerful fashion empires in recent history. Such is the uniqueness, the simplicity, the 'minimalism' of her designs, that even today Chanel is run along her lines.

Even the perfum bottle she helped design was unique. Her font for her name, unseen previously. These are all things we take for granted, that women take for granted now.

She passed away one Sunday in January, 1971. I wish I could have known her more.

I would recommend the DVD when it comes out, or the film if one can go watch it.

We watched a very charming romantic comedy called "The Other End of the Line" last night. The movie revolves a young woman (Shriya Saran)working in a credit card company call center in Mumbai, India who forms a relationship with one of her callers (Jesse Metcalfe). Eventually he suggests they get together while he's visiting San Francisco on buisness... the company trains it's operators in American pop culture, gives them American names and instructs them to tell caller they're based in the US.

Anyway at first she says no, but then changes her mind and travels to San Francisco... things don't go quite as planned but they do meet and you'll just to watch the movie to see how it ends. :)

The plot is far is far fetched and they are few over used cultural clichés but Shriya Saran and Jesse Metcalfe have great chemistry and the film is really quite charming and enjoyable... Four thumbs up and a :icon_drib and :boobies: from me since Shriya Saran is total hottie!

Hi guys, we've been so busy lately we haven't had much time for movie watching... but we did have a chance to watch The Hurt Locker and Fame recently, we really like The Hurt Locker... Fame was disappointing though. :)

The Hurt Locker

The Hurt Locker follows the actions one of the U.S. Army's elite EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) teams operating in Iraq as they identify and disarm improvised explosive devices and come to terms with their personal demons. It's fast paced, tense and action packed... It's one of best films we've seen in long time.

Two thumbs up. :)

Fame

Fame (2009) is a remake Alan Parker's Oscar-winning 1980 classic that revolves around the lives of group of talented young singers, dancers, musicians and actors at New York City's High School for the Performing Arts. The film starts our promising enough with Debbi Allen's character addressing the incoming freshmen emphasizing the importance of craft and discipline to an artist's life. Unfortunately, the film quickly devolves into a shallow and worn cross between "High School Musical" and a teen version of "A Chorus Line" that ends up reinforcing the delusion afflicting too many young performers, which is: all they need is their natural talent and good looks plus a little good timing and right connections to make it big.

Alan Parker's original film was a gritty cautionary tale this new version is shallow clichéd teen musical that has none of the originals stregnths... all in all it's a very disappointing film.

The one saving grace are the far to short moments with the schools instructors played Megan Mullaly, Charles Dutton, Kelsey Grammer, Debbie Allen and Bebe Neuwirth.

Two thumbs down... way down!

We just finished watching Cop Out with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan... Willis and Morgan play a couple of New York City police detectives who are suspend after a sting operation goes wrong... Thens things go from bad to worse for the duo when Jimmy Monroe (Willis) goes to sell a very valuable 1950s baseball card and is robbed while his partner Paul Hodges (Morgan) who is obsessed with personal problems fails to notice to two masked men running from the store. Their attempts to recover the card are complicated by, a nutty bugler, a Mexican drug gang, a stolen car and a kidnapped woman.

Anyway, Cop Out is awful... really, really awful... in fact it's so awful that it's good. There's some crass sex jokes and Tracy Morgan's character isn't particularly likable, but overall the movie works... Two thumbs up from me, none from Jeff.

The Hangover Part 2

I went to see The Hangover Part 2 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1411697/) tonight with some friends.

For those who don't know, it follows the same formula as the first movie. But set in a different location, Thailand. A group of friends have a few drinks on the beach one night before their friend's wedding, and they wake up the next morning in a strange place with no memory of what happened the night before. And one of them has gone missing. Now they have to look for clues to help them piece everything together, and try to find their missing buddy before the wedding.

It's not quite as funny as the first movie, given the fact that it's basically the same situation as the first film, but it does have some funny moments in it. It also has a smoking monkey. If you enjoyed the first movie, you should like this one.

Since i couldn't find any stars here, i'll just give it 4 out of 5 thumbs up.

The Hangover Part 2

I wasn't a big fan of the first film....I just didn't find it all to be so crazy
funny...despite the interesting set ups and situations that were presented
in the first film.
I think that movie rode a HUGE wave of hype to HUGE levels of boxoffice success.

I'm not against that type of movie...I just think that for what it was..or for
what it was supposed to be...that film should have been so much more.
I guess that I believed some of the hype..because when I did end up seeing
it on DVD months after it's release...I was expecting so much more...and it just
left me as kind of flat and lacking.
I watched that movie wondering if some of the funny parts had been cut
out of the version that I was viewing. I couldn't believe that this was the same
version that ran in the theaters and had generated such over the top word of mouth.
Maybe if I had seen the movie cold knowing nothing about it my opinion might've
been a little bit different...but I don't know.

I've heard that the sequel is pretty much the same kind of stuff as the first film...with
maybe a little bit more raunch tossed in for heightened "comedic effect".
I can't blame them for taking that approach..if it ain't broke..don't fix it...the first
film made HUGE money, made people's careers and baffled many in the business
with it's insane levels of success.

Unless I have to..I'm in no rush to see it.
I'll probably end up seeing it at some point....but I for sure will wait until it's
out on DVD or streamed. They'll most probably release some sort of enhanced
version with extra bonus footage etc.

We did something last night we haven't done in nearly a decade... we went to the movies... We went to see Act of Valor (http://actofvalor.com/) with the gang, we loved the movie. Act of Valor isn't your typical big budget, Hollywood action movie. First the heroes aren't actors, they're real life U.S. Navy SEALs. Second, there are none of the tired, tried and true war movie clichés there aren't any corrupt or incompetent officers, there's no angst ridden "hero" who endangers the mission while wrestling with his personal demons, and there's no soldiers waxing philosophical about the morality of what they're doing.

Anyway, the film centers around a terrorist plot smuggle weapons across the border from Mexico and the efforts of a SEAL team to prevent it from happening. The story itself is a fictionalized account based on several different real life operations undertaken by SEALs.

The movie is a little slow to develop, and the acting seems a little stiff at times, but it works because ultimately the SEALs aren't acting they're playing themselves... and they aren't actors, they are the rough men George Orwell talking about when he wrote "Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." And when they do violence in Act of Valor, they do it exceedingly well, many -- most? of the the action sequences were filmed using live ammunition, that brings a level of realism to the movie that can't be matched.

Act of Valor has its clichés though (Spoiler Warning) "Roarke", one of the lead characters, leaves behind a pregnant wife as the team deploys... you know, you just know at that moment that he isn't coming back. But it works, when that grenade is thrown into the midst of his team; he looks at it, and time slows down, you can't help but ask yourself, "What would I do?... it's powerful moment in the film.

Bottom line, screw the critics, Act of Valor is one of the best movies we've seen in a long time.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
