I know we've got a general movie thread, but I'm interested with this specific theme. There are a lot of films (features, indies, made-for-tv-movies, direct-to-video movies and shorts) that I haven't seen nor heard of. C'mon guys, lets see what kind of a list we can compile here. Clips, trailers and pics are a bonus!

I'm so excited about this one being released on dvd in October!

Loving Annabelle

Synopsis - Loving Annabelle is the controversial story of a Catholic school teacher, Diane "simone" Gaidry, who has an affair with her female student, Erin "Annabelle" Kelly.

Tons of clips and pictures on this site http://www.myspace.com/weloveannabelle

I cannot WAIT to see this movie! In it, Heather Graham (Gray) and her brother, Thomas Cavanaugh (from the show "Ed") fall for the same woman, Coyote Ugly hottie Bridget Moynahan.

But...along the way, Gray has a hot affair with her boss (the incredibly beautiful Brit Rachel Shelley--Helena Peabody from "The L Word.") Yummy.

I've always really liked Heather Graham...I think she's very underrated as a comedic actress. And, yeah, she's hot as hell.

Not sure when this film is coming out, though. They did major recasting (Rachel replaced Saffron Burrows, for example). But, I'll go see it for sure when it's released. :icon_yes: :icon_yes: :icon_yes: <=== The nodders say, "Yes, Stacia, we concur..."

Kissing Jessica Stein

I surprised myself and I did enjoy the movie. Not the ending so much, but I didn't hate it.

Synopsis - Jessica Stein is a single, straight, sucessful, journalist, part of a bonded Jewish family living in New York City, who finds herself not as straight as she thought when Jessica meets and begins an intense friendship with career woman Helen Cooper which ultimately leads to romance.

Synopsis:

Jill Fitzpatrick is a 28-year old, street-smart, out-of-work private investigator wishing she wasn't celibate. Eager for the taste of adrenaline, she accepts a job investigating the disappearance of Mickey, a young female student. Jill quickly strikes a spark with the seductive Diana, Mickey's poetry lecturer. But it is not long before Mickey's strangled body is found. Distrusting the cops, Mickey's grief-stricken parents ask Jill to find her murderer. Jill is soon hurled into a passionate liaison with Diana as she enters the surprisingly seamy underworld of Mickey's life, looking for clues to her murder. For whom did Mickey write her sexually charged poems? What is the connection between Mickey and her two favorite poets? Who is leaving threatening messages in verse on Jill's answering machine? Blinded by her passion, Jill is compromised in her search for the truth - until her own life is in danger.

Starring: Susie Porter, Kelly McGillis...

It's not a bad movie neither a good movie. It's just alright. For the hardcore fans of Kelly McGillis (Top Gun), it's a must see movie. Other than that, I would recommend this movie only for killing time.

Oh my gosh, awesome thread.

Go Fish I don't remember much about the film, but I remember that it was really boring and it's all in black and white. It has Guinevere Turner and Rose Troche in it (both really popular among The L Word fans).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109913/

But I'm a Cheerleader This was a cute little comedy. Megan finds out she's a lesbian and her parents send her to a camp to be turned "straight" but falls for another girl named Graham.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0179116/
http://youtube.com/watch?v=zXHbjPaZJJs

D.E.B.S. Absolutely one of my favorite movies. It's hilarious and Sara Foster and Jordana Brewster are major hotties. Amy (Sara Foster) is a top secret agent and falls for the criminal Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster).
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367631/
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ritbg5QXMKQ

If These Walls Could Talk 2 If I remember correctly, it's three separate segments showing three separate couples from different generations. It wasn't amazing, but it was an interesting look at the decades.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206036/

Better Than Chocolate Good movie. Don't remember much about the plot, but there's one scene with paint...
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168987/
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6LUNJsVtj04

The Sex Monster Marty asks his wife to have a threesome, and when she does, she ends up being attracted to multiple women. Funny little movie, not much of a plot.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0159730/

When Night is Falling Excellent film. A Christian (I think?) teacher falls for a woman who works with a carnival that just came to town.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114916/

Tipping the Velvet This is a three-part TV series on the BBC. Nan falls for a performer, gets her heart broken, and falls in love again. Good series. I enjoyed it a lot even though it's set in a different time period.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0324264/

Lost and Delirious Another beautiful movie with Piper Perabo (and a young Mischa Barton). I could definitely relate to the heartache in this movie. Two roommates at a private school fall in love, but when they're exposed, one of them denies the other.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0245238/
http://youtube.com/watch?v=U2TqVu7z_UI

Goldfish Memory I really enjoyed this Irish film. "Goldfish memory" refers to the fact that a goldfish's memory lasts only 3 seconds, which is compared to new relationships. There's a great quote in the beginning "You know, goldfish have only a three second memory. That means if it takes three seconds to swim around the bowl, everything is new. Each time two goldfish meet, it's like it's the first time. It's just like humans, really. Each time we fall in love, it's as if we're doing it for the first time. Some kind of chemical reaction kicks in and wipes out all the memories of how painful the last heartbreak was, and we think "wow, this is great, this is new, this is different." " Check it out, it was a really cute movie.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366527/
http://youtube.com/watch?v=jplFLAFC2TU

Mango Kiss A girl falls for her best friend and they overcome some obstacles. I honestly don't remember the plot.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304377/

My Summer of Love Mona meets a girl named Tamsin and they have a summer fling. Mona thinks they're in love, but for Tamsin, it's just fun. It really captures human emotions and reactions.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382189/
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_1Xy6tHKYKU

Girl Play I don't remember a lot about this, just that I thought it was kind of boring. It's sort of like a "reality show" (I don't know how else to put it). It's narrated by the two main women and basically tells how they met.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416773/

I've seen a few foreign ones too, but those were just weird/boring.

Excellent list, Ange. The only one I haven't truly seen is Mango Kiss and that's because I fast forwarded through most of it.

And with you posting those pictures from D.E.B.S makes me want to go watch it again! LOL.

Yeah... Go Fish sucked... I thought it would be witty because it's some of the writers of The L Word, but it was just disappointing. And I don't like to watch butch lesbians.

For me, Jessica was "trying" too much to like Helen, and be gay. I dunno. But, I LOVED Helen's friends (the gay couple), and Jessica's best friend and her family (her mom was great), and I loved that it was filmed in New York...it made me long to go there again soooo bad. The location gave the film an urban/yuppie/artistic feel.

Jennifer Westfeldt (Jessica) reminds me sooooo much of Lisa Kudrow!!!

Ally Sheedy plays a lesbian photographer (Lucy Berliner) who was once very wealthy and famous, but then suddenly left the art world, and became a hermit in her apt. in NYC. Patricia Clarkson is HILARIOUS as Lucy's ex-German superstar mostly incoherent actress g/f Greta. Syd (Rahda Mitchel) and her b/f move into the apt. right below Lucy and Greta, and their relationship begins with a leak. lol. Anyway, they begin to spend time together, and Lucy is then exposed to her neighbors' nasty habit--drugs--and lots of drugs.

There's another aspect too that I really liked...Syd's job. She works for a magazine, but she's more like a gopher, and they don't really respect her--until she tells them she know Lucy--then they go bezerk, asking her to coax Lucy out of retirement.

Anyway, I could go on forever, cause I really LOVE this flick, but...

May stars Angela Bettis and Scary Movie veteran (and total cutie) Anna Faris. It's a horror film, and from what I remember, May (Angela) is an outcast whose only friend is her doll. lol. She gets a job working in the same office as Anna Faris' character, and she wants May from the first moment she sees her--she gets her wish eventually.

The film was okay, I mean, I probably would only rent it again to see the love scenes.

Angelina Jolie! Angie plays 70's supermodel Gia Carangi. It profiles her rise to fame in the modeling world, her partying, the drug habit that took over her live, and her battle with, and ultimate demise from AIDS. Also, her relationship with makeup artrist Linda (Elizabeth Mitchell) was a large focus of the movie. The was the first film I'd ever seen Angelina in, and I fell in love with her instantly. That girl can act--nuff said!

Thanks for the head's up, girls. I rented this movie today, and it was cute. I guess the only problems I had with it were that it could have been longer--Luce and Rachel's relationship seemed to come out of nowhere, and picking up a U-Haul was just a day away LOL. I guess I would have liked to see them spend more time together, so we could truly understand their relationship. I liked the bond that Luce formed with Little H--that was such a cute relationship!

Yeah, I really wanted to like Butterfly aka Hu die but it was a mess the way it would uneasily shuffle back & forth from past to present, sometimes showing flashbacks within flashbacks! Hey, I like complex narrative structures as much as the next film nerd but this was ridiculous! Still had some very nice touches though, and it was a first for Chinese cinema (or was it Hong Kong?).

Early in Peter Jackson's (Lord of the Rings) career, he directed this cult favorite. It was the first major film for both Kate Winslet (Juliette) and Melanie Lynskey (Pauline), and it's a true story. Two girls meet, fall in love, and their families basically freak out, by planning to separate them (one family plans to move to South Africa). Pauline is full of teenage angst, and she's brooding and frumpy (Melanie Lynskey actually grew up to be quite a hottie, though!). Juliette is the new girl in school, pretty, and from a wealthy family. The two girls find that they have art in common, and begin an odd friendship (in which they have a "world" in which only they can enter), and quickly fall in love. In the end, they devise a sinister plan to keep them together.

Heavenly Creatures is a very odd movie, but I've always really liked it. The fact that it's a true story makes it all the more creepy... :icon_yes:

Just a heads up on a recommendation. I recently saw a superb lesbian-themed film that also takes place in the oppressive regime of communist China that is the movie that Butterfly (not Sandra's Butterfly, by the way :)) should have been. It's called The Chinese Botanist's Daughters, and it is magnificent... a must-see for all you fans of lush queer cinema.

Yes, Stacia, it's an excellent movie. It takes place in 1980's China, and is about a young woman who goes to temporarily study with a famous herbalist & his daughter. She falls madly, passionately in love with the daughter, who returns that love equally, so they cook up a plan to extend her stay there so they can be together indefinitely. The young woman is to marry her lover's brother - a soldier in the Chinese army - so while he's away stationed wherever, she gets to live with the daughter in her father's home. Both must keep their love a secret, of course. It all goes horribly wrong, of course, as this highly dramatic moment from the wedding scene chillingly seems to portend. This is as grand, epic and tragic as anything out of Madam Butterfly or Memoirs Of A Geisha. Amazing movie.

Requires DivX. 18MB. http://www.mediafire.com/?0nmq1zqgkno

I rented Loving Annabelle last night, and I have to say that I was very disappointed in the film. It was too short, for one. And, for all the build-up and sexual tension btwn Annabelle and Simone, the love scene (although it was hot and passionate), was inadequate time-wise. I don't know...maybe I'll have to watch it again. I did think the acting was excellent, but things were just missing for me. Plus, I thought the ending was way too abrupt. The film could have been at least 15-20 mins longer, IMO.

From the trailers on the Loving Annabelle dvd, I found out about a film called "Show Me," so I rented it tonight. The acting is superb (as soon as I saw that Katherine Isabelle was in it, I knew I had to get it--I love her!). Anyway, it's about two kids who kidnap a woman, and bring her to her cabin, which is isolated in the woods. The woman (Sarah), is upset because her lover (Sam), cancels at the last minute (it's their anniversary). Through um, "home videos," Jenna (Katherine Isabelle) discovers that Sam is a woman, and she's captivated by the vids.

I thought the film was good overall, but some parts didn't really make sense, but I won't spoil it for you too much. It's an odd independent film, but I think it's worth a look.

I watched Loving Annabelle this weekend and bought a copy when I returned it. For me it's one of the best mainstream offerings from an Indi in a loooong time. They didn't spend too much unnecessary time with the peripheral characters, which a lot of Indi's tend to use as filler instead of fully developing the story. I agree the love scene could have been longer, but loved what they did deliver. The ending is probably the only draw back for me, they should have played that out more...but when I rewatch it, I won't really be looking at ending. :rofl2:

I totally agree. I loved it. Katherine Brooks did a wonderful job with the film. The cinematography was fabulous. With the money she had to work with its outstanding. She really left the ending open to interpretation. At least the plot didn't suffer.

Annabelle should have hit Cat over the head with a shovel so she could have been taking away with Simone.:icon_yes:

I mean, in the current ending--okay, to the Government came to pick up Simone. Were they taking her to prison? If so, why the hell did she look so happy to go to prison? Was she thinking about all the new punci she'd score? I agree that the alt ending was much better, although the newpapar Annabelle saw in the gas station (that Simone had been cleared of any wrong-doing) was hella cheesy. But yeah, I liked that one better than the actual ending.

I've literally been going to this site for like 10 years (at least!): ELMS, or The Encyclopedia of Lesbian Movie Scenes
http://www.clublez.com

Here, you can literally find almost ANY lesbian movie, scenes with lesbian content, lesbian celeb couples, mainstream TV shows, adult films/TV shows, older lesbian movies--just ANYTHING, and from all over the world!

I go here a lot to find lez movies that I'd like to rent. Next on my list is a Peruvian film called "Banos De Damas." Of course I've never heard of it, that's the beauty of this site. If you check out the stills of the film, you'll see WHY I want to see it! She's wearing a black dress with a plunging neckline, and has legs for days. O.M.G.

This film from 1985 was the first lesbian film I ever saw. I was around 16 when I first saw it, and it just blew me away. Years later, I fin***y bought it, and I can't believe how great it is--I think it's by far one of the best lesbian films EVER made. I love the look and feel of the movie (set in Reno in the 1959), and the score is perfect for the film. Helen Shaver is excellent as the uptight Professor seeking a divorce from her husband, and Patricia Charbonneau is also great as a woman 10 years Helen's junior--a free spirit, and the "whisper" of the town because she's a lesbian. If you haven't seen this one, be sure to check it out!

You know, I am so glad that people know exactly what to give me for Christmas. I have 10 free movie passes, and at work, one of our gifts was a Blockbuster card for 2 free rentals, a bucket of popcorn, and two sodas.

Anyway...I'll be using one of those passes to see Gray Matters! The film almost wasn't released because of casting changes--Molly Shannon replaced Jane--(uh, the blonde who played the secretary in ***y McBeal--Krakowski? Is that her name?) and Rachel Shelley replaced Saffron Burrows as Gray's boss (I think, or maybe she's a client) whom she has an affair with. I think the film was actu***y supposed to be released like 2 or maybe even 3 years ago, but it had other problems as well. I hope these problems don't show in the final product. :)

I watched Bano de Damas tonight, and it was pretty good--and also quite funny in parts (due to "Gaviota--a transgendered male on his way to becoming a woman). The movie is in Spanish with English subtitles, and does in fact, revolve around the women's bathroom at a popular club. There's many characters/plotlines in the film: a woman who finds out her politician husband is cheating on her, the ladies room attendant whose husband is dying, but she doesn't believe it, and a very drunk woman whose man won't talk to her since she learned she's prego.
Anyway, on to the good stuff! There's Dilka (not to be confused with "dildo") and Marines. Dilka is a self-proclaimed bisexual who is dating Marines, who is much younger than she is. Dilka (Lorena Meritano) is a talk show host who is concerned about her image. Marines (Andrea Montenegro) is a young girl with with a coke habit and a mother she is at odds with, and whom she feels has abandoned her. The two have a very hot (but dark and short) love scene towards the beginning of the film. They are two bronze beauties rolling around in bed. There is full nudity--for a moment, I thought I was watching a porno lol. Their relationship seems to be strong until they hit the club, and Dilka begins to check out every woman around (even those clearly underage). Marines reminds Dilka that they are together for the evening, and she complies--until Cloe Castro (Viviana Gibelli) enters the room. She's a famous soap opera star/singer who comes to the club to perform. She and Dilka immediately lock eyes. Even with Marines hanging on to her, Dilka makes it quite obvious to Cloe that she is willing, able and interested. I love this part--as Cloe is eyeing her on her way to the stage, Dilka simply takes a drag of her cigar, and crosses those never-ending legs of hers--Cloe can't help but to look down at them. Throughout the song, Cloe serenades Dilka from the stage, and Marines becomes disgusted. Soon enough, Dilka makes her way over to Cloe later to invite her to be a guest on her show.
The film was pretty good, but it gets kind of silly towards the end.

**SPOILERS***

One thing that can kill a film instantly is awful casting. Fortunately, for this film each actor is cast perfectly. Heather Graham is both believable and amazing as Gray, an ad exec who is unlucky in love. Tom Canvanagh is charming and funny as her brother Sam--they live together, and spend almost all their time together. At a party held by Carrie (Molly Shannon), Gray's co-worker and friend, a woman asks Sam how long he and Gray have "been together." Mortified, they promise to seek mates for each other. In walks Bridget Moynahan (Charlie). The siblings meet her at a dog park, and it is love as first sight for Sam and Charlie. The 3 of them go salsa dancing, and Sam and Charlie continue the night (or, morning, actually) after Gray goes home. He tells her the next day that he and Charlie are getting married. Gray is both shocked and jealous.

The 3 head to Vegas, and the girls bond. They take a bubble bath together, and then head out for drinks (and sing onstage with Gloria Gaynor). And, as I'm sure you've heard, they return to their room , and engage in a hot kiss. Afterwards, Charlie passes out, and Gray spends all night pacing in the room saying "this can't be happening!" Gray's world now is spinning out of control, and while indoor rock climbing with her therapist (the incredible Sissy Spacek), Gray whispers, "I think I'm...gay." She also reveals that she kissed Charlie, and that "I liked it!" Sissy kind of dismisses her claim, saying these things were "normal," and that she needs to get out there and meet some guys. Gray seems relieved that she's being told that she's not gay. She takes this advice, and sets up two dinner dates on the same night--both flop horribly.

At this point, Gray knows she's gay, but she can't believe she never knew this before, and is realizing that all this time, she's been waiting for Mrs. Right, not Mr. Right. She gets the courage to come out to Sam. He gives her a huge hug, and tells her this it great, and that he's proud of her. He also tells her that he always knew (to her bewilderment). "But...there's more," Gray says. "I'm in love with her." (Charlie). Gray lets it slip that she kissed her as well. The tender moment suddenly turns ugly, as Sam orders Gray out of the apartment.

Gray befriends a cabbie, Gordy (Alan Cumming), and he has a huge thing for her. They spend time together, and he moves in to kiss her. She half-heartedly kisses him back, but upon pulling away, she knows why she can't get into it. He knows it too; he mentions how her eyes light up whenever she talks about Charlie (which was all night). Gray eventually confronts Charlie about their night in Vegas, but Charlie doesn't remember the kiss at all. While she's going on about how much she loves Sam, Gray realizes that she can never say anything about it to Charlie--it's a very sad moment, and you really feel for Gray.

At the office, Gray is trying to impress hard-as-nails client Julia Bartlett (Rachel Shelley). Finally, Julia likes the campaign Gray has put together, and she is even offered a promotion. At the urging of Charlie, Sam goes to Gray's office to make up--the ensiuing scene where Gray accidentally comes out to the entire office is hilarious! Sam and Gray trap themselves in an elevator, and there's a heartbreaking revalation from Gray--she realizes that she may never get married, have a family, be respected, or be able to hold hands with her lover.

Gordy is determined to get Gray laid. He dons drag (and it's not pretty), and takes Gray to a gay club. Gray is very nervous about being there, and right after she says she wants to leave, she sees Julia across the room--she's shocked. Gordy leaves, and Julia comes over. They talk for a bit, and Julia invites Gray back to her place for some cognac. Nervously, Gray says, "I like cognac, but I like brandy too..." Julia seals the deal: "I have brandy." The next shot is of Gray leaving Julia's place wearing the same clothes and smiling from ear to ear--she finally got some.

Heather Graham IS Gray. Her comedic timing, likable personality and quirkiness as Gray is amazing. This role would not be the same if played by anyone else. And, she is absolutely beautiful throughout the entire film. I see her as a 21 year-old instead of the 37 year-old that she really is. She brings a youthful, playful quality to Gray, and you really care about her; you hurt when she's hurting, laugh when she's laughing, and you want her to be happy. Bridget is great as Charlie--you can tell that she loves Sam, and genuinely cares for Gray. Rachel is awesome as Julia, but I wish she had more screen time. She's a woman who truly knows how to go after what she wants, and from the moment she saw Gray, that was what she wanted. She got it.

I absolutely LOVED Gray Matters, and will definitely see it again. It had fun and serious moments, and Molly Shannon was hilarious as usual. There wasn't a single part in the film where I felt it was "dragging," and the setting of NYC made the film even better. Check it out!

OMG, I just happened to run into this site, and I've been on it for almost 2 hours now LOL.

Wow! They have hot girl on girl kisses from ALL kinds of movies (mainstream, adult, etc) and TV shows. Some of these smooches really bring me back, but many of them I have never seen. Hmmm...I also discovered that the Graham sisters (Heather and Aimee) both seem to have a thing for kissing the ladies. Maybe I'm right about Heather after all. She has always seriously dinged my bi-dar! :icon_yes:

Last night I finally saw Saving Face. I really enjoyed it. The plot focuses on Wil who just started a relationship with Vivian, her boss' daughter. To make things more complicated, her single, pregnant mother has just moved in, and Wil hasn't come out to her yet. It illustrates the Chinese culture and the differences between the generations.
At times, I was laughing because I could see that happening with my own parents. Other times, I was squirming because I know how annoying Asian parents can be.

A couple weeks ago, I saw another film called Red Doors which also focused on a Chinese family in New York. The main plot isn't the lesbian relationship, but that story was really cute.

Hey Stacia,
I saw Gray Matters a couple of weeks ago. Although I think she's beautiful, I've never really been a big fan of Heather Graham's work. I feel that her career has been derailed by horrible choices in roles. I thought Gray Matters was okay, though, and I actually found her quite likable (and I've always loved Tom Cavanagh). The movie definitely has its flaws; I think the dynamic would have been much better had Charlie remembered the kiss. Way too much time was spent on needless scenes and characters; this time clearly should have been spent showing the audience Gray's struggles with her sexuality, because as the movie played, it seems that she accepted it in just a few days. How often does that happen? Overall, I found it very fluffy, but with that said, I'd still rent the DVD, which I think will be coming out sooner than we think.

Thanks for your insight, VH, and I definitely agree with you; I would have loved to see her struggles with her sexuality as well. The script just didn't delve into the emotional side of coming out as much as it should have (the elevator was the only scene where Gray had a sense of the issues she may face in the future by having a female partner). And yes, having Charlie remember kissing Gray would have added a new spin on the movie. I found it baffling that she seemed to remember almost everything else. I mean, come on! LOL

As far as Heather's acting, I usually see her like this: good actress, bad choices. In reality, she's only been in a few major hits, and that's not a good track record, because she's been acting for soooo many years. But, like I said before, she looks drop-dead in every single scene in Gray Matters--even when she's sobbing. :boobies:

Oh, and speaking of the DVD, I just learned that it'll be out on June 19th. :) :yippee:

A few weeks ago, I finally watched Fingersmith. There wasn't enough lez action, but the story was definitely captivating. I was left speechless by the end of the first episode. Really good movie.

I watched Gray Matters two nights ago. I loved it! AMAZING cast. I especially loved Alan Cumming's character. And Bridget Moynahan in lingerie... :icon_drib Definitely my kind of movie (because I love cheesy, predictable chick flicks/romantic comedies).

Yeah, I loved Gray Matters too, as you know. :) I mean, sure it has its flaws, but it's great if you don't take it too seriously. Wasn't that kiss HOT? OMG...

Even Heather Graham said she couldn't stop looking at Bridget's ass.

She has a very nice ass. That's all I stared at when she was in her lingerie on screen.

I think they dragged out the ending a little bit though just so they could have a "happy ending." That's okay though; romantic comedies should have a happy ending. :)
